Our Story
Jamu Traditions is a company dedicated to promoting health and wellness through education, spa services, and high-quality spa products. As a pioneer in the spa and spa education industry, Jamu Traditions has helped shape the industry, setting the stage for what it is today.
Inspired by the timeless wisdom of Balinese and Javanese treatments, our founder, Jeannine Carroll, sought to revive these ancient practices, once cherished only in local homes. Our beauty and health rituals, along with our elixirs, are lovingly prepared from fresh, natural ingredients, hand-mixed just moments before each treatment begins
Jamu Traditional Spa was the first of its kind in Bali, opening in 1989 within the beautiful Alam Kulkul Hotel. Our vision is to create serene environments where traditional Indonesian treatments are delivered in a peaceful, clean, and professional atmosphere.
From humble beginnings, we expanded by opening a small production laboratory—starting in a single room of Jeannine’s home. There, we carefully cut, dried, blended, and mixed roots and spices to produce our own spa products. In 2002, our products were officially registered with BPOM, allowing us to supply cosmetics to hotels and spas. We are honored to have partnered with leading brands as their trusted supplier for many years.
By the early 2000s, the spa industry experienced a significant boom, leading to a greater demand for therapist training. In response, we opened Bali’s first internationally accredited spa school, marking a turning point for Jamu. This development solidified us as a multi-functional spa company—which allowed us to become your one-stop shop for all spa needs.
A Story from Our Beloved Founder
Arriving at Bali’s open-air airport in 1986, I walked off the airplane onto the tarmac and into the small one-story building. Instantly the smell of cloves overwhelmed me. The wonderful, comforting aroma hit me like a power, enveloping my being.
Lush green fields entertained carved stone, wooden statues, and woven walls trellised the landscape. An array of sights and sounds passed me by as I immersed myself into this world of flutes and bird song, aromatic flowers and healing oils. A tangible feeling of something other-worldly floated just out of reach and I wanted to learn more.
In a time before mass tourism and toll roads, a spirituality of good and evil was available and palatable. An era of traditions and beliefs and into this world Jamu Traditions was born.
